Multiple Responses lets people take your survey more than once from the same browser. This is handy if you expect survey takers to take your survey on a shared device, like in a computer lab or on a public kiosk. We use cookies to know if someone has already taken the survey and whether they're allowed to take it again.
You can enable the Multiple Responses collector option when you're using the Web Link collector, Website collector, or Social Media collector.
To turn on Multiple Responses:
Response editing is limited when both Multiple Responses and Response Editing are on. People can only edit responses while they’re taking your survey—they can't edit responses after it’s completed.
The Manual Data Entry collector and Kiosk collectors are meant to help you collect responses from multiple people, so there isn't an option to disable Multiple Responses.
By default, Multiple Responses is turned off for most collectors, meaning the survey allows only one response per browser or email address.
When Multiple Responses is off and someone tries to take the survey again using the same browser, they'll see a message that they already took the survey.
If the survey-taker's browser is set to clear cookies each time it's closed or they access the survey on a different browser or device, they’ll be able to take the survey multiple times.
Custom variables can be used to generate a unique web link for each respondent. When a custom variable containing a unique identifier is included in a survey link, that identifier is tracked with the respondent's survey response.
Once a respondent submits a completed response using their unique survey link, the link can’t be used to submit another response. This helps ensure that only one completed response is recorded for each unique identifier.
To set up a unique Web Link:
Suppose your survey link uses the custom variable unique_id as the unique identifier:
If a respondent submits a completed response using …unique_id=123456789, that unique identifier is marked as used. Any subsequent attempts to submit another response using the same link (or any link with unique_id=123456789) will be blocked. However, a respondent can still submit a response using ...unique_id=987654321, because that unique identifier has not yet been used. Each unique identifier can be used to submit one completed response per collector.
There isn't an option to allow multiple responses for email invitations. Each contact can only respond to an email invitation once.
If you want a contact to take the survey more than once, create a new Email Invitation collector.
