Multiple Textboxes Question
The Multiple Textboxes question allows you to collect multiple open-ended answers with a single question. You can also configure this question to collect numerical data only.
Creating a Multiple Textboxes Question
To add this question type:
- Drag and drop Multiple Textboxes into your survey from the BUILDER section.
- Enter question text.
- Enter the preferred labels for each textbox.
- Configure any additional options.
- Click Save.
Only Allow Numerical Data
This option adds validation that only allows respondents to enter a positive whole number as their answer. In the Analyze Results section, we'll calculate the average for each textbox.
With the Only Allow Numerical Data option applied, the maximum number that each textbox accepts is 2147483647. If you need respondents to enter larger numbers, consider asking them to enter their answer in multiples of one thousand or one million.
The question will only accept numerical digits, so respondents will receive an error message if they enter characters like commas, decimals, or percent signs. You can customize the error message that displays when an answer is not a number.
You can validate the Single Textbox question to require answers formatted as a decimal number within a specific number range.
Require a Fixed Sum
This option requires that all answers add up to a fixed sum that you define. Learn More: Requiring a Fixed Sum
Under the Edit and Options tabs, you can further customize the question in the following ways:

Before you send out your survey, preview your survey design to see what your survey will look like to respondents.
Since there are so many validation options for this question type, make sure to customize the question text and error messages so respondents know how to answer the question correctly.
When you view your responses in the Analyze Results section, click Responses next to any textbox label to see a list of open-ended responses for that textbox.
Click View respondent's answers below any comment to jump to the respondent's individual response.
You can also use the text analysis features to identify and tag recurring words or themes in your open-ended text responses.
Averages for Numerical Data
If you selected the Only Allow Numerical Data option, we'll calculate the average for each textbox.
The average is calculated as follows:
