Manually Entering Survey Responses

Manual Data Entry Collector

You can manually input responses you collected offline or on behalf of someone without an internet connection. The Manual Data Entry collector essentially lets you fill out your survey the same way a survey taker would.

There isn't a way to upload or import a spreadsheet of responses in bulk—you have to enter each response manually, one at a time. Also, you need to create the survey in SurveyMonkey before you can create a collector and input responses.

Choose Manual Data Entry for your survey to keep responses collected offline separate from other collectors.

To create a Manual Data Entry collector:

  1. Go to the Collect Responses section of your survey.
  2. Choose Add Data Manually and click Next. If you already have a collector for your survey, click Manual Data Entry from the bottom-right corner of the collector list.
  3. Click Add New Response and fill out the survey.
  4. Make sure to click Done on the last page to record the survey response.

To add responses to an existing Manual Data Entry collector, follow the steps below for Web Links.

To manually add responses to an existing Web Link or Social Media collector:

  1. Go to the Collect Responses section of your survey.
  2. Click the name of the collector.
  3. In the top-right corner of the collector, click Manual Data Entry.
  4. Click Add New Response and fill out the survey.
  5. Make sure to click Done on the last page to record the survey response.

TIP! Enter multiple survey responses in a row by looping the survey back to the beginning upon completion. Then use the survey link found on the collector options page to take the survey rather than clicking + New Response.

It's not possible to manually add a survey response for a contact when using Email Invitation. Contacts must click the link from their email invitation and submit the survey. Or you can create a Web Link to record the response on their behalf.
