Basic statistics show you the minimum, maximum, mean, median, and standard deviation for a closed-ended question.

StatisticDescription
Minimum and MaximumThe lowest and highest value, or answer choice, selected by at least one respondent.
MeanThe average of all responses.
MedianThe midpoint at which all responses are evenly divided above or below. If there is an even number of responses, the median is the average of the middle two answer choices.
Standard DeviationThe amount of spread or distance from the mean.

To show basic statistics for a question:

  1. Go to the Analyze Results section of your survey.
  2. Click Customize at the top of the question.
  3. Click the Display Options tab.
  4. Check the box next to Basic Statistics.
  5. Click Save. Basic statistics appear in a separate data table below the question chart.

To calculate basic statistics, each answer choice for a particular question is assigned a numeric value based on the position of the answer choice. You can reference the assigned values in parentheses next to the labels in the main data table directly below the question chart. See example (English only) »

Basic statistics aren't available on the NPS question.

Custom weights applied to a Matrix/Rating Scale question aren't used to calculate basic statistics.

Basic statistics doesn't apply to combined answer choices. The basic statistics data table lists all your answer choices separately.

You can export basic statistics in summary data PDF or PPT exports.
