Creating a Web Link for Your Survey

The Web Link collector lets you share a survey link and collect responses. You can share your survey link anywhere—like on social media, in an email (using your own email client), or print it on a newsletter.

To create a Web Link:

  1. Go to the Collect Responses section of your survey.
  2. Choose Send surveys your way and then Share a survey link.
    1. If you already have a collector created and don't see that option, click Add New Collector and select Web link collector.
  3. Choose your collector options.
  4. (Optional) Click Customize to use a custom URL ending or change the domain.
  5. (Optional) Edit the nickname of the collector by clicking the pencil icon—this nickname does not show to survey takers.
  6. Copy the survey link and paste it wherever you'd like. The link works as long as the collector is open—Web Link collectors are open by default.

By default, your survey URL will look something like this, with a string of letters and numbers at the end:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/P58B9BX

TIP! Download a QR code for your survey to print on pamphlets, flyers, or posters.

Your Web Link Collector URL is a public link, meaning that anyone who has it will be able to access your survey and complete it. Web crawlers can also access public links, but they won't index your survey on a search engine.

If you wish to use a Web Link Collector but do not want the link to be public, consider password-protecting your survey.

Depending on your plan, you can create a Custom URL Ending or use the White Label URL to remove SurveyMonkey branding from your web link. If you customize the URL after you send the survey out, both the old link and the new link will work.

You can’t create a Custom URL Ending if you have the Recurrence collector option turned on.

By default, Web Link Collectors record IP addresses. However, this information can't really help you track survey takers. Instead, you can add required questions to your survey to collect identifying information from survey takers, or you can use Custom Variables.

Alternatively, you can use an Email Invitation instead of a Web Link to track survey takers.

Copying a web link creates a new link for you to share a previous survey at a different time or with new survey takers.

To create a copy of a Web Link collector:

  1. Go to the Collect Responses section of your survey.
  2. Click . next to the Web Link collector you want to copy.
  3. Select Copy Collector.

A new Web Link starting with Copy of is added to the Collect Responses section of your survey.

Most of your customized collector options apply to the copied web link. To review and edit your collector options before sending your survey, select Edit Collector from the survey's three dot dropdown.
