Filtering by Open-Ended Comments or Text

You can filter your survey results by specific words or phrases people may have used in open-ended responses.

You can use the text analysis features to identify and tag recurring words or phrases in your open-ended text responses, then filter by those tags.

Since survey takers may have used synonyms, misspelled words, or abbreviated terms, we recommend filtering by multiple words or phrases. When creating a filter, separate the words or phrases you want to filter for by commas. The filtered view will include responses that match any of the answer criteria defined in the filter.

You can filter by the following open-ended question types:

  • Numerical Textboxes - Choose the row to filter by, and choose to filter results that are Greater than, Less than, or Equal to the value you enter.
  • Single Textbox or Comment Box - Enter word(s) or a phrase you'd like to filter by and choose to include responses that match All Words, Any Words, or the Exact Phrase.
  • Multiple Textboxes - Choose the row to filter by, and enter a word or phrase. Choose to include responses that match All Words, Any Words, or the Exact Phrase.
  • Contact Information - Choose the row to filter by, and enter a word or phrase. Choose to include responses that match All Words, Any Words, or the Exact Phrase.
  • Date and/or Time - Enter the date and/or time you'd like to filter by, and choose to include responses that were submitted Before, After, or Exactly on that date and/or at that time.
