Add another layer of security to your SurveyMonkey account by using two-factor authentication (2FA) when logging in.

2FA uses two types of authentication factors to identify who you are when logging into your account:

Authentication factorWhat does this mean?Examples
1. KnowledgeSomething you knowYour login info: email address and password
2. PossessionSomething you have*A smartphone, or tablet

* Any device that can download an authenticator app.

When 2FA is enabled, you need both your login information and a one-time passcode generated by an authenticator app on your mobile device to log in to your account.

If your SurveyMonkey account is linked to Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, Microsoft, or Apple and you use those credentials to log in or you're part of an Enterprise team with Single Sign-On (SSO) set up—You'll not be able to use 2FA.

To set up and use 2FA, you need to have an authenticator app downloaded on your mobile device.

Here are some common authenticator apps that can be found in your mobile device app store:

  • Google Authenticator
  • LastPass Authenticator
  • Microsoft Authenticator

Getting set up with 2FA is a two-step process. First you turn 2FA on for your SurveyMonkey account, and then you register the mobile device you'll use to verify your identity.

  1. Log in and go to My Account.
  2. Find the Profile section.
  3. Go to the Login Details page from the Login details section.
  4. Turn the toggle on to enable 2FA.

Once your account has 2FA turned on, you can now connect your mobile device.

  1. Select, Yes continue to setup.
  2. Open the authenticator app on your mobile device to scan the QR code.
  3. Enter the code.
  4. Click on Continue.

Your mobile device is now saved for 2FA, and will be used to confirm your identity using the authenticator app when you next log in.

If you have issue with setting up, read more about troubleshooting 2FA.

TIP! Codes may have a countdown to expiry which will invalidate the code. Check to make sure you enter the most current code.

You can choose to remember this device for 30 days when logging in. So when you next log in with the same device or browser, it will remember this device and you won't be asked for a code for the next 30 days.

You may need to switch which mobile device you use for 2FA. For example, if you get a new phone or tablet. Read more about troubleshooting 2FA.

To change your 2FA device:

  1. Log in and go to My Account.
  2. Open the Login Details page.
  3. Select Change enrolled device.
  4. Open the authenticator app on your new mobile device to scan the QR code.
  5. Enter the code.
  6. Click on Continue.
  7. (optional) Remove the SurveyMonkey account from the Authenticator app on your old device.

Your new mobile device is now saved for 2FA, and will be used to confirm your identity using the authenticator app when you next log in.

If you don't remove the SurveyMonkey account from the Authenticator app on your previously used device, it will continue to generate a code. This code will be invalid and can no longer be used to login.

TIP! Keep your most commonly used mobile device as your 2FA authenticator as you can only save one device with 2FA.

If you turn off 2FA, you won't need an authenticator app to confirm your identity at login.

To turn off two-factor authentication:

  1. Log in and go to My Account.
  2. Find the Profile section.
  3. Go to the Login Details page from the Login details section.
  4. Under Two factor authentication (2FA) turn the toggle off.
  5. Select Turn off.
  6. (optional) Remove the SurveyMonkey account from the Authenticator app.

Two-factor authentication is now turned off for your account. If you want to use 2FA again, toggle it back on.
