Managing AI Feature Access

SurveyMonkey provides AI and machine learning features to help you create better surveys, gather higher quality data, and spot insights quicker. Team and Enterprise admins can control what features their teams have access to at any time.

Here are the features that Teams and Enterprise admins can manage access to:

Data security and privacy are built into the design of our AI and machine learning features. Team and Enterprise Primary Admins can manage their teams' access to AI and machine learning features as needed. You can learn more about how our features process your data to decide if these features are right for you.

On April 2, 2025, we’re simplifying AI and machine learning feature access. This means the way you manage access will change:

  • For Basic and Individual accounts, access to AI and machine learning features will be on, simplifying the process to access our features. Your data is only processed by the feature if you choose to use it. If you don’t want to use these features, you can still use SurveyMonkey to create, send, and analyze your surveys as you always have without AI and machine learning.
  • For Teams and Enterprise accounts, Primary Admins will manage access to individual AI and machine learning features for their teams. Access may be on or off by default, depending on your plan. Prior to April 2, 2025, make sure to review and adjust your permissions so they’re right for your team. Learn how to adjust these settings.

We’re also streamlining some feature settings:

  • For Teams and Enterprise accounts, we’re consolidating the existing Automatic Insights setting into your AI and machine learning settings. If you’re on a Teams or Enterprise account, your primary admin will now manage these features for your team under AI and machine learning (AI/ML) feature access. If you have an individual account, access to these features is on by default, and you can enable them for each survey.
  • For Build with AI, the Help Us Improve Build with AI setting will be discontinued, as this functionality is no longer being used. We don’t allow 3rd party models to use your prompts, surveys, or account data to train their models. Your use of Build with AI always remains subject to our Privacy Notice (section 3 in particular). You can learn more about how our different AI features process your data.

Prior to April 2, 2025, you can preview and modify the new settings. Your current settings for Build with AI and Automatic Insights still apply during this time. The new settings will apply beginning April 2, 2025, and can still be changed later.

Feature availability depends on your plan type and where your data is stored. You’ll only see settings for the features you have access to.

Expand the dropdowns below to learn how to manage feature access for your account.

  • Team plans - Primary Admins
  • Enterprise plans - Primary Admins
  • Teams and Enterprise plans - Non-Admins
  • Basic and Individual plans

As we develop advanced AI features, we will add these capabilities to your available permissions. When new AI feature permissions become available, we’ll notify admins on Teams and Enterprise accounts before we make the feature available.

Access to new features may be on or off by default, depending on your plan type and existing settings:

  • For Basic and Individual accounts, any features you have access to will be ON by default so you can access them with ease. Your data is only processed by the feature if you choose to use it.
  • For Teams and Enterprise accounts:
    • If an admin previously allowed access to all AI features, access to new features will be ON by default.
    • If an admin previously turned off access to one or more AI features, access to new features will be OFF by default.

Teams and Enterprise admins can manage access to these features during and after the notice period.

Transparency is one of our guiding AI principles. We’ve outlined below how our AI and machine learning features process your data when you use them.

FeatureDescription
Build with AIBuild with AI allows SurveyMonkey customers to create surveys assisted by generative AI, utilizing the Azure OpenAI or OpenAI service.
To provide the Build with AI feature, your survey prompts and an encrypted user ID are sent to the Azure OpenAI or OpenAI Service. These third party providers do not use this data to train their models.
Sentiment AnalysisSentiment Analysis uses our proprietary machine learning models to classify text responses as positive, negative or neutral.
Response QualityResponse Quality uses our proprietary machine learning models to scan your survey data and flag low-quality responses.
