SurveyMonkey

After building your survey in the Design Survey section, apply logic features to control the behavior of your survey and enhance the quality of your data.

Logic Feature
Description
Page skip logicSkip survey takers from certain pages to specific destination pages further ahead in the survey.
Question skip logicSkip respondents to a future question or page in the survey based on their answer to a previous close-ended question.
Disqualification logicUse Skip Logic to send disqualified respondents to a custom disqualification page if they select certain answer choices.
Advanced branchingApply logic based on multiple conditions—a respondent's answers, custom data from Contacts, custom variables, or survey language. When the criteria you define in your conditions are met, you can skip respondents to future points in your survey, show or hide questions, show or hide pages, or invalidate questions and customize the error message.
Page randomizationRotate, flip, or randomize certain pages in your survey to minimize order bias and improve overall data quality.
Question randomizationRotate, flip, or randomize questions or sets of questions to minimize order bias and improve overall data quality.
Block randomizationGroup pages of your survey into blocks and add logic to rotate, flip, or randomize the blocks to minimize order bias in your survey.
Carry forward responsesFunnel multiple answer choices from one question to another based on respondents' selections. This feature allows you to proceed from broader questions to specific questions that are more relevant to the respondent, and more useful to your research.
QuotasClose your survey automatically once your survey reaches a certain ratio of responses.
Custom variablesTrack respondent information through the web link you send them to access the survey. We provide you a template URL you can customize once you've finalized your design.
Question and answer pipingInsert answer text from a previous question into a question later in the survey.
Advanced pipingInsert text from a respondent's answers, custom variables, or custom data from Contacts later in the survey.

Same page logic EAP: Same page logic is only available to some customers, at this time.

You can now use the Advanced Branching rule builder to trigger same page logic.

Set up your conditions and actions to either the Show question or Hide question. Same page logic seamlessly prompts respondents with the relevant next questions, in real time and on the same page.

Same page logic prompts respondents to better engage with your survey, as they can see context questions and follow-up questions, all within one survey page scroll.

In addition to the existing Advanced branching logic actions, you can now also set up same page logic.

To set up same page logic on your survey:

  1. In the Design Survey section, Build your survey.
  2. Once your survey is fully drafted, then go to the top of your survey page containing the question you want to trigger logic on.
  3. Click Page logic at the top of the page.
  4. Choose Advanced branching logic.
  5. Click + New rule.
  6. Select criteria for your condition and actions to either show or hide questions when certain conditions are met. Future questions, on the same survey page are now available in the dropdown.
    1. Confirm that your survey doesn’t include same page logic limitations.
  7. Click Save Rule.
  8. (Optional): You can add more rules after saving your first.
  9. Click Apply.

There are some incompatible features with same page logic. Check that your survey doesn’t mix the following features with same page logic:

  • Your survey can include Slider, Ranking, or A/B Test (Random Assignment) questions, but don’t add same page logic to these question types.
  • One question at a time mode isn’t compatible, use Classic mode if adding same page logic.
  • Question randomization can’t be combined with same page logic.

After building your survey and setting up same page logic, double check your logic is correct by previewing the survey and using the survey overview’s enhanced logic visualizations.
