Taxes on SurveyMonkey Purchases
Depending on your billing location, taxes may be included in the price of subscriptions, renewals, and other purchases, or it may be added as a separate line item on your invoice. If you don’t see your billing country listed below, SurveyMonkey doesn't add taxes to your purchase price. It’s your responsibility as a consumer or business to pay any applicable taxes to your local government, as needed.
Some organizations and businesses may be exempt from sales tax. If you're currently receiving a charity or nonprofit discount you aren't automatically exempt from paying sales tax, and need to complete the exemption process based on your location.
Visit our Legal Center for more information on how we assess and charge sales tax.
SurveyMonkey is required to charge sales tax in certain U.S. locations to comply with local laws. If the billing address for your current payment method is located in a region that collects sales tax, you'll see the tax on your SurveyMonkey invoice starting February 1st, 2019.
This tax applies to all SurveyMonkey products, including SurveyMonkey Enterprise, SurveyMonkey Audience, and our other business solutions.
Local tax rates vary depending on your state, county, and city. Make sure your current Billing Details are up to date so that we can charge the correct tax rate.
SurveyMonkey may not assess tax in some locations or on some of its services. If you want to estimate your potential sales tax, the best way is to use an online sales tax calculator.
Some organizations and businesses may be exempt from sales tax. If you believe your organization qualifies for tax-exempt status, apply for tax exemption before you upgrade or renew your account. If you've already made a purchase and still need to provide a tax exemption certificate, you have a limited amount of time, depending on your billing location.
Once your exemption status has been approved, future purchases will be exempt from tax where applicable. You can check your current exemption status in the Billing Profile section of the Billing Details page.
If you're charged tax after your exemption status has been approved, please contact us.
Tax Exemption Certificate Timelines
The amount of time you have to submit a tax exemption certificate after upgrading or renewal varies based on billing location. If you don't see your billing location in the table below, you have 90 days from date of purchase to apply.
You can find your invoices in the Transaction History tab of the My Account page. Invoices include the applicable tax for your billing location, the price of the plan, and the total amount you paid.
If you're located outside of the United States, SurveyMonkey may be provided to you by our European subsidiary in Ireland, SurveyMonkey Europe UC.
To comply with laws in the European Union (EU), Value Added Tax (VAT) is included in the price of subscriptions, renewals, and other purchases when applicable.
Adding a VAT Number
To exclude VAT from your purchase, you need to add your VAT number before making a payment—you can't retroactively apply a VAT number to a paid invoice.
If you're a VAT-registered business in the EU (other than Ireland), you can add a VAT registration number to exclude VAT from your purchase. There are two ways to do this:
If your VAT registration number is invalid, please refer to the proper VAT ID formats by EU member state on the European Commission website and try again.
You can find your invoices in your Transaction History. To view an invoice, click the invoice number. To view a tax invoice, click the document icon N next to an invoice number. Invoices are also emailed to the billing contact listed on the account.
If you see a notice that your invoice is pending, please wait 48 hours then check your Transaction History.
SurveyMonkey Audience Purchases
If you already have a VAT number added to your SurveyMonkey account, we'll automatically apply it to your SurveyMonkey Audience purchase. If you don't have a VAT number added to your account, you can add one on the checkout page.
SurveyMonkey Audience is offered in all countries, except Brazil.
If you're a VAT-registered business in Ireland, you can add a VAT number to your SurveyMonkey account, but this will not remove VAT costs from your price—we're required to collect VAT on all transactions with our customers located in Ireland.
You may be able to reclaim VAT by filing a VAT return with your government.

Starting July 8, 2015, all new customers whose billing country is Brazil pay in Brazilian Reals (BRL), and SurveyMonkey is provided to you by our Brazilian subsidiary in São Paulo, SurveyMonkey Brasil Internet Eireli.
You'll need to add your CNPJ or CPF ID number on the checkout page when purchasing a SurveyMonkey plan. Adding your ID number does not exclude tax from your purchase.
You can edit your tax ID at any time by editing your payment method information in your Billing Details. Edits you make will be applied at your next renewal—edits won't be applied to any existing invoices or Nota Fiscal (NFSe).
Nota Fiscal (NFSe)
A Nota Fiscal is an invoice and financial document that includes all tax-related information required for reporting to local tax authorities in Brazil for goods and services. Starting July 8, 2015, we'll be issuing Nota Fiscal Eletrônica for Services (NFSe) from the São Paulo municipality for customers whose billing currency is BRL.
Your NFSe are stored in your Transaction History, along with your invoices and receipts.
Brazilian Payment Methods
We support Brazilian Reals (BRL or R$) for Brazilian customers using the following payment methods:
Unavailable payment methods: At this time, Boleto is not an available payment method, and it's not possible to pay with a Brazilian debit card. We're sorry for the inconvenience!

Excluding Tax from Your Purchase
If eligible, you can exempt tax from future purchases by entering your tax exemption number on the checkout page or in your account:
