SurveyMonkey

Paste Your Content to Create a Survey

If you drafted your survey in a document and now need to program it into SurveyMonkey, you can Paste your content all at once, instead of adding each question one by one.

You may need to reformat your document to recognize and properly create the Single textbox and Multiple choice questions. After adding questions this way, you can always edit and customize the output survey.

To create a survey via Paste your content:

  1. Click Create survey.
  2. Select Paste your content.
  3. On the Import Questions screen,  copy and paste your Multiple choice or Single textbox questions and answer choices. Each question and answer choice needs to be on their own line.
  4. Press Enter or Return on your keyboard twice to separate your questions. Each question must be separated by a blank line.
  5. In the Preview section, view the questions you add in real time.
  6. Once done entering your questions, click Add Questions to create your survey.

Once the survey is drafted, you can give the survey a title, add different question types, edit or switch the question type, change the survey theme, add rich text formatting, and more.

Beta feature: At this time, only some customers on individual plans are able to Paste your content to import your survey with the help of AI into SurveyMonkey.

If you have your survey questions and answers already written outside of SurveyMonkey, simply Copy and paste your survey into SurveyMonkey and let AI do the rest.

Paste your content is powered by OpenAI/Azure Open AI. We use machine learning and generative AI to convert your content into a survey to recognize the various survey elements within your document, of any format, and convert it into a survey.

To paste your survey content into SurveyMonkey:

  1. Click Create survey
  2. Select Paste your content as your starting point and click Create survey
  3. To agree to use AI to create your survey, click Use AI
  4. Copy your survey from your document and paste it into SurveyMonkey. Click Create survey.

Once your survey is created, be sure to review your survey. The import may result in inaccuracies and there may be limitations impacting the import. Review your survey design for accuracy, adjust any question types, add logic, or style your survey.

If you’re on the Basic (free) plan and your survey contains paid features, you’ll either need to upgrade to a paid plan or remove the paid features in order to send your survey.

When you choose Paste your content as your creation method, you need to select Use AI to utilize this feature.

Paste your content will stay enabled and available to you until you clear your browser data. If you use a different device to access your survey, you will need to choose to Use AI from that device too to use Paste your content.

At this time, any text formatting, titles or page descriptions, style elements, images or videos, page breaks, logic, and unsupported question types, won’t be captured from your document and won't be imported.

Your survey is created with the following question types: Multiple choice, Checkbox, Single Textbox, Comment box, Matrix/Rating scale, and Text.

A customer can paste and submit your survey up to 50 times per month.

Also, please don’t paste any sensitive information, like names, into SurveyMonkey.

Usage is subject to SurveyMonkey's Acceptable Uses Policy, as well as additional third party provider usage policies, and acceptable use and conduct policies.

If something goes wrong in converting your survey text to a survey, you’ll see an error message to provide you with info about what happened and what you can do.

When Paste your content is enabled and used, your data is processed in the following ways:

  • We use machine learning and generative AI to identify survey elements, format, and generate a survey from your pasted content within SurveyMonkey.
  • We send the survey text you provide and an encrypted user ID to OpenAI or Azure OpenAI service to extract the survey structure, questions, text, comments, etc. and provide the feature.
