StandOut Engagement Pulse

The StandOut Engagement Pulse template is designed to help team leaders understand both their team's engagement and their effectiveness as a leader through the eyes of their team. Based on equations from The Marcus Buckingham Company (TMBC), this survey template calculates both the overall engagement score for your team, as well as what percentage of your team is fully engaged. Sending your team the StandOut Engagement Pulse survey once a quarter can give you a consistent way to measure how you're doing—you’ll have the insights you need to improve your team’s experience, helping you to retain and attract top talent. And it's only 11 questions long, so it won't take much time for your team to complete.

Using the Template

The StandOut Engagement Pulse template is a free template available to anyone with a SurveyMonkey account.

To use the template:

  1. Sign in to your SurveyMonkey account, or sign up for SurveyMonkey.
  2. Click + Create Survey in the upper-right corner of your account.
  3. Scroll down the page and click ALL TEMPLATES.
  4. Preview the template and click Create Survey.
  5. Don't edit, re-order, or delete any of the required questions in the survey with asterisks (*) or it won't be possible to properly calculate the GEI or % Fully Engaged in your survey results.
  6. Click THEME in the left sidebar to edit the look and feel of the survey.
  7. Send your survey.

Editing the Template

Don't edit, re-order, or delete any of the required questions in the survey with asterisks (*) or it won't be possible to properly calculate the GEI or % Fully Engaged in your survey results. Additionally, don't add questions to the beginning or middle of the template.

The validity of the survey and the equations used to calculate the scores depend on the exact wording and order of the questions. Each respondent needs to answer each of the required questions in order to be included in the calculation of the GEI and % Fully Engaged.

You can add new pages to the end of the survey if you'd like to ask additional questions. This does not affect the calculation of the GEI or % Fully Engaged in your results. However, keep in mind the survey was specifically designed to be short and simple.

Analyzing Your Results

In the Analyze Results section of your survey, in addition to your survey results, you'll also have access to the following data:

Metric
Description
Global Engagement Index (GEI)The overall engagement score for your team on a scale of 0–100. TMBC's equation accounts for cultural survey-taking nuances (for example, respondents from certain countries can lean toward extremes of survey scales), as well as the variable weight of each of the statements.
% Fully EngagedThe percentage of people on your team who strongly agree with the engagement-related statements on the first page of the survey. In other words, the number of people on your team who are passionately committed to the team and their role within it.
StandOut GEI Benchmark

TMBC's global GEI average. The benchmark shows how your team’s GEI compares to other teams globally. You can show benchmarks for the engagement-related survey questions and compare your rating average for each question to the quartiles of the benchmark for that question. Benchmark data comes from TMBC. You may also be able to buy SurveyMonkey Benchmarks for specific comparison groups.

Each respondent needs to answer each of the required questions in order to be included in the calculation of the GEI and % Fully Engaged.

Display Warnings

To display the GEI and % Fully Engaged, you must meet all of the following conditions:

  • You need to complete your profile.
  • You need to use all required questions in the survey with asterisks (*) exactly as they are written. If you edit, re-order, or delete these questions, it's not possible to properly calculate the GEI or % Fully Engaged in your survey results.
  • You can't add questions to the beginning or middle of the template. If you'd like to ask additional questions, you need to add new pages to the end of the survey.
  • To preserve your team’s privacy, you need to collect at least 3 complete survey responses.
  • You need to turn off any Filter or Compare Rules.
TIP! The TMBC StandOut platform also offers engagement and performance solutions with dynamic teaming, real-time data, and machine-learning algorithms to increase the precision of measurement over time and deliver personalized, calibrated coaching to each user. Learn more »
