A Likert scale is a common way to get feedback on how strongly people feel about a topic. The scale centers around a neutral option so you can uncover the different degrees of opinion people have.

There are several pre-written Likert scale questions available in the Question Bank. For example:

How important is teamwork to your employer?

  • Extremely important
  • Very important
  • Moderately important
  • Slightly important
  • Not at all important

You can create a Likert scale on your own with these two question types:

  • The Matrix/Rating Scale question type, which allows you to assign custom weights to answer choices. If you make it a single-row rating scale, the question will look like a multiple choice question to people taking your survey. In Analyze you'll see the weighted average for each answer choice.
  • The Multiple Choice question type, which automatically assigns default weights to answer choices. You can change the depth display option of your chart in Analyze to view the weighted average.
