Text Analysis & Word Cloud

PAID FEATURE: You need a paid plan to use Text Analysis.

Text Analysis makes qualitative research faster and easier by highlighting important terms and allowing you to tag open-ended responses. The ability to analyze what your respondents say helps you gain insight into their attitudes, behaviors, concerns, motivations, and culture.

TIP! You need about 20 responses or more in order for important words or phrases to display in the views. If you have over 5,000 responses, the feature may not work properly.

Cloud View and List View

The Cloud View shows you the most important words and phrases your respondents used in a word cloud format. The larger the font size, the more important or significant the word. The List View orders the words shown in the Cloud View by highest to lowest number count. Click on a word to see all of the responses associated with it.

We highlight important words rather than frequent, common words. For example, if 100 people responded with "I like dogs," the important word would be "dogs" rather than showing the phrase "I like" as important or unique.

Exporting a Word Cloud

You can export a word cloud as a PNG image file.

To export the word cloud for a particular question with open-ended responses:

  1. At the top of the question, click Export.
  2. Select Word Cloud.
  3. (Optional) Edit the File Name.
  4. Click Export.
  5. Under EXPORTS in the left sidebar, click the export to download the file to your computer. Exports are stored here for 14 days.

Creating Tags

You can create tags to categorize responses by keyword from the Tags tab, on any question with open-ended responses:

  1. Click +New Tag.
  2. Enter a name for your tag and choose a color to help you distinguish it from other tags.

After you tag your responses, the Tags tab displays the number of responses you tagged so you can do quantitative analysis. You can also see which individual tags you've added when viewing individual responses, or create a rule to filter by tags.
