Taxes on SurveyMonkey Purchases

Depending on your billing location, taxes may be included in the price of subscriptions, renewals, and other purchases, or it may be added as a separate line item on your invoice. If you don’t see your billing country listed below, SurveyMonkey doesn't add taxes to your purchase price. It’s your responsibility as a consumer or business to pay any applicable taxes to your local government, as needed.

Some organizations and businesses may be exempt from sales tax. If you're currently receiving a charity or nonprofit discount you aren't automatically exempt from paying sales tax, and need to complete the exemption process based on your location.

Visit our Legal Center for more information on how we assess and charge sales tax.

SurveyMonkey is required to charge sales tax in certain U.S. locations to comply with local laws. If the billing address for your current payment method is located in a region that collects sales tax, you'll see the tax on your SurveyMonkey invoice starting February 1st, 2019.

This tax applies to all SurveyMonkey products, including SurveyMonkey Enterprise, SurveyMonkey Audience, and our other business solutions.

Local tax rates vary depending on your state, county, and city. Make sure your current Billing Details are up to date so that we can charge the correct tax rate.

SurveyMonkey may not assess tax in some locations or on some of its services. If you want to estimate your potential sales tax, the best way is to use an online sales tax calculator.

Some organizations and businesses may be exempt from sales tax. If you believe your organization qualifies for tax-exempt status, apply for tax exemption before you upgrade or renew your account. If you've already made a purchase and still need to provide a tax exemption certificate, you have a limited amount of time, depending on your billing location.

Once your exemption status has been approved, future purchases will be exempt from tax where applicable. You can check your current exemption status in the Billing Profile section of the Billing Details page.

If you're charged tax after your exemption status has been approved, please contact us.

The amount of time you have to submit a tax exemption certificate after upgrading or renewal varies based on billing location. If you don't see your billing location in the table below, you have 90 days from date of purchase to apply.

If you're located outside of the United States, SurveyMonkey may be provided to you by our European subsidiary in Ireland, SurveyMonkey Europe UC.

To comply with laws in the European Union (EU), Value Added Tax (VAT) is included in the price of subscriptions, renewals, and other purchases when applicable.

  • The applicable VAT rate depends on your billing country.
  • If you're a VAT-registered business in the EU (other than Ireland), you can add a VAT registration number to exclude it from your purchase.

Starting July 8, 2015, all new customers whose billing country is Brazil pay in Brazilian Reals (BRL), and SurveyMonkey is provided to you by our Brazilian subsidiary in São Paulo, SurveyMonkey Brasil Internet Eireli.

You'll need to add your CNPJ or CPF ID number on the checkout page when purchasing a SurveyMonkey plan. Adding your ID number does not exclude tax from your purchase.

  • CNPJ: Identifies a business or company in Brazil. After adding a CNPJ, we'll display additional business-related fields, like company name and purchase order number. See Contact Information for Payments for SurveyMonkey's CNPJ.
  • CPF: Identifies an individual consumer in Brazil.

You can edit your tax ID at any time by editing your payment method information in your Billing Details. Edits you make will be applied at your next renewal—edits won't be applied to any existing invoices or Nota Fiscal (NFSe).

If eligible, you can exempt tax from future purchases by entering your tax exemption number on the checkout page or in your account:

  1. On the checkout page, scroll to the Billing Details section and enter your tax registration number. It'll be applied to that payment and future payments made by your account.
  2. In your account, go to your Billing Details. Scroll to the Billing Contact section and click Edit. From the window, add your tax registration number. When you add or edit an existing tax registration number here, it's applied to future payments.
