Before you send your survey, decide if you want to track who’s taken your survey or if you want to keep responses anonymous.

Tracking MethodDescription
Email Invitation Collector (Recommended)

Sending an Email Invitation is the best way to track respondents. An Email Invitation lets you track:

  • How many people opened your email
  • How many people clicked through to the survey
  • Who responded to your survey
  • Web Link Collector

When you use a Web Link collector to send your survey, you can use these tracking options:

  • Add the Name or Email address question to your survey design and make it required so people must submit an identifier with their survey response. Add Custom Variables to your survey design to pass known information through a survey link and into your survey results.
  • If you have an Enterprise team with SSO enabled, turn on Respondent Authentication. This means respondents need to log in through SSO to access your survey and their profile information is tracked with their response.
  • Text Message Collector
    (Enterprise only)
A text message collector tracks the number of texts you sent, whether any phone numbers bounced, the number of responses you received, and individual response status from the collector’s Overview and Recipients tabs.
Recipient phone numbers aren't included in Analyze Results, so we recommend using custom data to see identifiable info like first name, last name, or other useful data.
IP AddressBy default, most collectors track the IP address of your respondents as response metadata. However, if you turn on Anonymous Responses, your respondents’ IP addresses won't be tracked.
If you want to track other identifying information, make sure to also choose another tracking method.
