SurveyMonkey

Limitation: The Google add-on setup is only available in English.

We have two Google add-ons available:

This add-on is available for SurveyMonkey paid plans.

The Google Sheets add-on lets you import your survey responses to a spreadsheet. We’ll update your spreadsheets with new responses until you choose to stop importing.

To import your survey results to Google Sheets:

  1. Get the free SurveyMonkey for Google Sheets add-on. You can find it in the SurveyMonkey App Directory or the Google Workspace Marketplace.
  2. Create a new spreadsheet in your Google account.
  3. Click Extensions from the toolbar.
  4. Select the SurveyMonkey add-on, then select Open
  5. Select Get Started to log in with your SurveyMonkey details to authorize and open the app. The login page opens in a new browser tab.
  6. Once you log in, go back to your spreadsheet.

Once you sign in, you can start importing responses from SurveyMonkey. To import responses:

  1. Once your survey list pops up, select the survey you want to import results from.
  2. Check the boxes for the collectors you want to import results from. A green dot means the collector is open, and a gray dot means it's closed.
  3. Click Start importing to import the survey data.

We create a new sheet with the same name as the survey you’re importing. We’ll also update your sheet with new responses any time you open the SurveyMonkey add-on.

TIP! It’s best to stop importing responses before making changes to your spreadsheet.

The add-on imports all responses from the collectors you selected into a sheet with the exact same name as the survey. The following information will help you get started analyzing the spreadsheet:

  • Row 1 contains the question text from the survey.
  • When a question isn't answered or is skipped by logic, the text "Not Answered" displays in the cell.
  • The Checkbox question type lists each answer choice as it's own column and assigns True if the answer option was selected or False if it wasn’t.
  • Questions with multiple rows, columns, or fields of answer choices span across multiple columns in the spreadsheet with each row, column, or field in its own column.

The spreadsheet organizes respondents by row and includes the time the survey was submitted or last modified and the complete answer set for each respondent. For additional respondent metadata you may have included in an Email Invitation Collector, please download an All Responses Data XLS export.

You can create filters in Google Sheets to organize the results, but it's best to wait to edit the spreadsheet until you're done refreshing the results—refreshing may overwrite changes you've made to the sheet.

To refresh the available surveys or response counts per collector, click the refresh button at the top of the list to the right of your SurveyMonkey username.

To import new responses to the sheet, close and reopen the SurveyMonkey add-on. We’ll update your spreadsheet with new responses.

We can only import responses into a sheet (or tab) that has the same name as the survey you’re importing. If the name of the sheet or survey changes, we’ll import responses to a new sheet.

You can import the survey data into a new sheet (or tab) within the spreadsheet if you don't want to overwrite any changes you've made. You have two options:

  • Edit the name of the sheet (the tab within the spreadsheet—not the name of the spreadsheet itself), then click Import to the right of the survey title. A new sheet will be created within the spreadsheet.
  • Edit the survey title in SurveyMonkey, then click Import to the right of the survey title. A new sheet will be created with the updated survey title.

Stop importing responses to change which collectors you import responses from or make changes to your sheet. To stop importing new responses:

  1. From the SurveyMonkey extension, select the survey you want to stop importing responses from.
  2. Click Stop importing to the right of the survey title.

If you want to keep importing responses later, just select Start importing.

Google Sheets allows us to import up to 3,000 responses at a time. To view more responses in a sheet, consider exporting your results to an XLS or CSV file.

If your survey has a lot of questions or responses, please refer to Google's spreadsheet size limits. We support the new version of Google Sheets, which has a limit of 2 million cells per spreadsheet.

A/B Test responses can’t be imported.

This add-on is available for all SurveyMonkey plan types, including the free plan.

The Google Forms add-on lets you convert a Google Form to a survey in SurveyMonkey. You can then design and send your survey from SurveyMonkey.

To import your Google Form into a survey:

  1. Get the free SurveyMonkey for Google Forms add-on.
  2. Open your Google Form.
  3. Click Add-ons from the toolbar.
  4. Open the SurveyMonkey add-on. You'll need to log in with your SurveyMonkey details to authorize and open the app.
  5. Once the app window pops up, select the form questions you want to include in your survey. Questions that are greyed out can't be imported.
  6. Click Convert to Survey.
  7. Log in to SurveyMonkey to finish designing your survey.

Your Google account can only be linked with one SurveyMonkey account at a time.

To switch the SurveyMonkey account you're using in the add-on:

  1. Click Sign Out from the bottom of the SurveyMonkey app window.
  2. Click Get Started within that same window.
  3. On the authorization page, click Use Another Account and log in.

To unlink your accounts entirely:

  1. Go to your SurveyMonkey My Account page. In the Linked Accounts section, click Unlink next to the Google Sheets or Google Forms application.
  2. Go to your Google My Account page. Find your connected apps and sites and revoke access for SurveyMonkey.
